Hi, I'm Ian.
I'm a sophomore Graphic Design Major at Appalachian State University, NC.
My interests and artistic tastes are strewn about everywhere. For the most part, I'm a digital, pen and ink, and watercolor artist, but all of this could change soon. I'm not exactly the most consistent artist out there...
My current concentration (if it can be called that) is an experiment in detachment from line and use of saturated color. I'm trying to paint first and define shapes with line afterward, which should help my obsessive detailing habits ease up a bit. So far, any unifying theme has not yet surfaced.
The root of all meaning in my art is based on my emotion and my subconscious at the time of inspiration. Essentially, this creates a great level of variety in my art, the formation of general inconsistencies, and the inability to form a professional portfolio at this point in time.
I draw my inspiration from Salvador Dalí, James Jean, Raoul Sinier, urban and graphic art, and gothic themes.

Just got back from Animazement 2009! I'm about to die.
It was pretty fun overall. Maybe too much of said fun. I didn't sleep enough. I didn't eat enough. I threw out my shoulders and lower back raving, and my wallet is now considerably lighter. I'm glad that happens only once a year...
However! I did learn a few things to apply to my drawing there. I went to a panel that helped me with conveying action poses, something that I usually have massive trouble doing. Also, I learned to better fit compositions to frames in sequential art.
Pretty useful stuff.
Maybe.

I've been in a painting mood lately.
Need more watercolor paper.
I'm going to work without lines for a while.

I got a few print requests by some people, showing that some people would actually like to own my trashy art. (Woah!)
Because of this, and the fact that a steady job doesn't seem to be in my near future, there is now this field of textual garbage that my fingers vomited up:
