More fanart? Yup.
I got some watercolor supplies recently, and what better way to break them in than draw one of the coolest shinigami ever?
I picked up some pretty heavy cotton-based paper from the art room before leaving the Career Center forever... and set to work on this about 2 weeks ago.
Although I have a ton of free time, it's hard for me to find the will to do art now. It's really problematic since I have so much I need to do, though! I've gotta finish ~Paimonerra's art trade, do some avvy art for ~zeldaalchemist for catching my unofficial kiriban, and a chibi bonus pic of Gorrex for *Crimson-Jazz for being my first commission client.
That's not including all the projects I have planned for myself, scholarship crap.... it's all really dizzying. *sigh*

Anyway! I really feel like using this deviation as a journal, since a lot is going on, but I'll wait to type all that later. This summer should be pretty exciting for me.

K, so picture stuff now!
It's Ryuk from Deathnote, pretty simple. He is holding an apple because he luffs them. :]
The pose was pretty hard to work out, and a lot of pen work went into this before I even thought of coloring it.
The composition looks tons better in person, trust me.

Anyway- yay! No obtrusive watermark this time. That being said... no art thievery please! It's usually a problem with fanart, so I hope that doesn't happen.
Yeah... um.
Coolies. I can finally get some other stuff done. ^^

You rekindled my Ryuk love! I was going to draw him, leik, fo-evar ago, but then Death Note got kinda bland. When L died, I was thinking, "Mmmkay... so... what the hell is the point of the show now?" Plus L is the shit. MOTHER FUCKERS. D:

You did ask for critiiiiique, so here it goes: The neck. o3o It seems a bit... skinny? Like, unable to support such a head. Extending the hair a bit downwards, regardless of whether or not Ryuuk actually loooooks like that (XD), would cover it up and make it magically awesomer. But, it's not like you can fix it now or anything, so, yeah~ Scan it, print it, send me a copy. ;D

I dunno if pensmanship is a word, but it definately should be if it isn't. :nod: I definately wil do more watercolor, so you don't have to worry about that. I really struggled with getting the blending and splatters right on this, since I wasn't used to it and I'm still overcoming my incompetence with that medium. I mean... I make TONS of mistakes, and I have to learn to not make so many because you can't really paint over watercolors...

My problems lie with the legs and arm at the bottom... I just think it looks really awkward there. Something isn't bending right...

I noticed something, too! A mistake? Kind of. Not really.
So you do it a lot, but I never really noticed. The neck - first of all, a little small. Actually, the head is a little too big for the body. Yeah.
But the neck! It's concave, and it should be convex. I know those are the wrong words to use in accordance to a neck, but do you know what I mean?
Like... Ryuk is kind of stretching his neck out and he's kind of looking up and stuff, so the neck should be, like... it should curve outwards. Ya know? I don't know. Explaining stuff is hard.

Crazy awesome! I loooove all the little details in the outfit, the swirls in the bark, the slightly jagged and unkempt look of the feathers, etc. I also like how there is just a little bit of wing poking out of the top of the border box.

The use of watercolor splatters to draw the eye into the lighter colored focus of the picture which is the apple is genius too. A++ my friend.

Heheh, I've always thought him to be scary...^^;

Anyway, I think this is a brilliantly done picture of him. 8D The coloring is great. His pose looks good too. And I like how the apple is about the only thing with some actual color to it. That's really cool. :3
