Artist's Comments

Title taken from the first and second tracks of Between the Buried and Me's album "Colors" because this is the most hardcore narwhal in existence. You can almost hear him bree.

I've been trying to figure out what to paint next for weeks, and I finally got to the point where I was deciding between a narwhal and a panda. I sketched both for a while, and ended up choosing the narwhal, since there were some awesome options to choose from as far as composition goes... and in fact, I'm painting another one after this to give to ~morganaxash! I couldn't decide on one sketch or the other, so I'm doing both... ^^;

I'm very impressed with how this turned out. Not only did I tone down on the india ink (I kinda ran out...), but I tried using a sponge and tape to create the coolest background effect I think I've ever made. :D
Seriously, I think it makes this pic for me.
That, and how fuckin' adorable the narwhal is. ^___^

Say, did you see the narwhal song on weebl's stuff? It would fit this picture perfectly!

And you're right, it IS the most awesome background effect I've seen in a while now, very very nice!
It looks a bit like some street painting (: That water is lovely too! Basically everything is great on it :>

The background you did...
if you look close enough you can see its actually made out of billions of copies of the word WIN, all forming the picture you see. I like to notice the things people don't normally do, XD. jk

Also, it's about time you ran out of india ink. You use that stuff on everything. I'll grant you, it's kind of addictive... But as a person who is still not sure if outlining ultimately benefits a piece... Actually, you know what? I don't know where I was going with that.

Apparently the street art feel comes up in my art quite a bit, according to some people. I really do get a lot of inspiration from graffiti, so this makes sense. Glad you like the background too! :dance:
